You don’t need to spend thousands to be a YouTube star… Not with these awesome cameras

Vlogging is big business, with more people than ever doing it. The platform of choice, of course, is YouTube. there, top bloggers can literally make millions a year from ads and sponsorship deals. While those bloggers have the cash to splash out on fancy lighting and even in-home studios, you don’t need to spend thousands on high end equipment to get similar results.

Most of the time you just need a decent camera. Here are five of the best sub-£400 digital cameras that help you shoot great video so you can be the next blogging star.

Nikon D3200 – Around £389

This is the most expensive camera on our list–but it’s worth it. This 24.2 MP DSL features the ability to capture full HD videos at 1,920 x 1,080/30p. Keep in mind this doesn’t include the lens, but if you’re shooting YouTube videos, that could be a good thing. Why? Because there are times you may want to shoot more wide angle shots and then there are times you may want to shoot closeups. Having a camera with swappable lenses gives you much more control over the type and quality of your shots.

Panasonic DMC-FZ72 – Around £319

If you want a DSL with the lens included, this Panasonic is a great option for YouTube videos. It features a 16.1MP sensor with a 20mm ultra wide angle, 60x optical zoom lens. that optical zoom is also supported by optical image stabilization, so you’ll reduce camera shakes. The DMC-FZ72 records videos as MP4 (H.264) so they are editable in most apps. It records those videos in high definition 1920×1080 resolution at 25 progressive frames per second. The camera also offers a pop-up flash, but you have the option of connecting an external flash as well.

Canon PowerShot SX610 HS – Around £159

This slim ultra compact digital camera shouldn’t be dismissed because of its diminutive size. It features a 20.2 MP sensor with an 18x Optical Zoom lens with optical image stabilization. The camera records 1080p full HD movies at 30fps and saves them as MP4. What’s really nice about this camera is it also has built-in Wi-Fi and NFC, so you can immediately start transferring your files from it to your other devices wirelessly.

Canon Powershot S200 – Around £149

Another great selection from Canon, this Powershot offers a 24mm ultra-wide 10.1 MP 5x optical zoom lens. On the video front, it does only record video in 720p and not full HD, but for most vloggers, 720p is completely fine and most viewers won’t be able to tell the difference. Videos files are saved as H.264, so they’ll be editable in the most popular video editing applications.

Canon Powershot SX410 IS – Around £129

This Powershot features a 20.5MP sensor with a whopping 40x optical zoom lens and built in flash. The focal length is equivalent to a 35mm lens. While it’s the least expensive on our list, that low price point does come with a trade off: the video it records is only 720p, but again, this will be fine for 99% of the video you record and virtually all your viewers. If you’re looking for a lot of bang for a little buck, the Powershot SX410 IS is a great option.
