Now that the game has been out for a while, Destiny 2 players are ready and raring for new content. Luckily, they won’t have to wait much longer. Bungie revealed the first Destiny 2 expansion, Curse of Osiris, today at Paris Games Week — and it might include a brand new raid.
As the name implies, the story will center around the mysterious ex-Guardian Osiris and his continuing fight with the Vex, who will be the main antagonists of the expansion. As is the case when any new expansion is announced, players are hopeful it will include a raid. After all, with raids come greater challenges and greater rewards. As luck would have it, a new raid may be in the plans for Curse of Osiris.
Shortly after the curtain was pulled back on the expansion, Activision updated its blog to include the announcement and some extra details on what players can expect.
Curse of Osiris adds a new chapter to the world of Destiny 2, expanding the universe by adding an all-new cinematic story with new and returning characters, a new destination to explore, Mercury and its Infinite Forest, a new social space to visit called the Lighthouse, new missions, new strikes, new raid content, new free roam activities. a world quest to complete, and more.
Note that “new raid content” is listed in the expansion’s description. This could mean a new raid is coming to the game or it could mean content is being added to the current one. However, Bungie released a trailer for the expansion alongside its announcement that included previews of expansive new locations and a giant Vex that all feel like potential raid fodder. But without confirmation from Activision or Bungie, this is speculation for now.
We’ll know more once it gets closer to the expansion’s release date, which will be on December 5, 2017 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
The PC version launched just a week ago and Bungie is learning a lot about the series debut on the system, namely that it comes with its own set of troublemakers. The developer has wasted no time punishing them and released its first wave of bans for players using programs that upset the balance of the game. Since this is new for the developer, mistakes were made, and a few innocent players got caught in the wave. Bungie rectified this shortly after, unbanning those who did no wrong.
Players have a little over a month to prepare for the first Destiny 2 expansion, and hopefully, Bungie can help with that by releasing its planned overhaul of the loot system ahead of its release. Players haven’t been entirely satisfied with the way the game rewards them. As a result, Bungie has said it will fiddle with the loot system so that players won’t feel like their efforts were in vain. Once the overhaul is complete, players can expect better rewards for strikes, adventures, and Lost Sectors.
If a raid is included in the expansion, Bungie will likely have a separate announcement for it once it gets closer to release. It will most likely also come with its own trailer.
Destiny 2 is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
