Bungie released a weekly report today that contains all that’s happening this upcoming week for the company — and what a week. The release of Destiny 2 for consoles is just days away, so Bungie is preparing Guardians for what’s to come. This includes revealing the date for the game’s first raid, which will go live on September 13th at 10am PT. As that’s just a week after launch, there isn’t a lot of time left to gather a Fireteam, Guardians.
There will likely be plenty of debate over the release date for the Destiny 2 raid, which may be titled Leviathan, since getting ready for such an endgame experience typically requires quite a grind. On the one hand, players have more time to prepare than they did with the last two raids, which launched 3 days after their respective expansion’s release.
On the other hand, this is a fully-fledged sequel and not an expansion, which means there is more content to absorb and enjoy, but a lot of it will likely be glossed over by those hoping to get raid ready in a week. Ultimately, it will depend on Destiny 2‘s progression system and how well it helps players increase their power level.
Bungie’s weekly report also details the release dates for Trials and the new Guided Games feature, which requires a bit more testing on the developer’s end. There’s a lot of information on Destiny 2 to absorb, but the report is worth a thorough look through.
Bungie has also been upping its marketing game lately as part of one last push before the game launches. In conjunction with the aforementioned report, a live action trailer also dropped. The trailer stars the three guardians classes and the lovable rogue Cayde-6. It has lots of action, an excellent soundtrack, and plenty of humorous moments sprinkled throughout. The greatest treat, however, is seeing those class supers in action.
Additionally, Microsoft has announced it is putting together a launch-day stream for Destiny 2 that will feature actor Marlon Wayans, the star of hit films like Scary Movie, White Chicks, and Scary Movie 2. The stream will be part of a new event launched by Microsoft’s Xbox division called Xbox Live Sessions. Wayans will be playing the game and adding comedic commentary, while fans will have an opportunity to interact with the celebrity and possibly win various giveaways.
The game’s director, Luke Smith, also recently discussed special plans for veteran players who played the original Destiny. While he kept the details under his hat, he did say there was something planned and that all will be revealed on launch day, September 6. The only hint he willingly gave was that those players will “enter the world a little differently than people who didn’t play.”
Destiny 2 releases on September 6, 2017 for PS4 and Xbox One, and on October 24, 2017 for PC.
