When Destiny 2 first launched it did so with a selection of PS4 exclusive content not unlike what was available in Destiny 1. And according to the promotional material for Destiny 2, this content would be exclusive to the Sony platform until at least fall 2018. Now we know fall 2018 is the official cutoff and the exclusivity will come to a close.
With the launch of the Forsaken expansion, all Year 1 PS4 exclusive content will become available for PC and Xbox One players. Admittedly, Destiny 2’s Year 1 exclusive content is not much to write home about, but it should be a nice treat for players looking to collect some new gear or experience some new content.
Once reset hits and Destiny 2: Forsaken goes live, Xbox One and PC players will gain access to the Lake of Shadows strike, the Retribution Crucible map, the Borealis exotic sniper rifle, gear sets for Titan, Hunter, and Warlock, as well as content added with Curse of Osiris and Warmind. While past PS4 exclusive exotics have been highly sought after weapons like Hawkmoon, Borealis is a little less popular in Destiny 2. The sniper rifle is capable of changing its element on the fly, which is a cool perk, but there are better sniper rifle options out there.
Not to mention, thanks to the mod system, players can change the elemental damage of any sniper rifle already. That is, until some sniper rifles become “primary weapons” with the new weapon slot changes in Destiny 2: Forsaken.
Lake of Shadows is hardly a popular strike and not a very good one, if we’re being honest. A few weeks ago the strike actually had a bug that kept players from entering the boss room if they arrived too late or joined the strike during the boss fight, but that has since been fixed.
And Retribution is too predictable of a map to be fun, which is a disappointing theme for many of the Destiny 2 PvP maps. There are very few angles for picking off opponents and flanking is near impossible given the layout of the map.
Regardless of personal feelings on the PS4 exclusive content, though, there are some new items that will become available for everyone and that’s never a bad thing. However, Forsaken also features its own set of exclusives, including a new strike and an exotic weapon.
Destiny 2: Forsaken releases September 4, 2018 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
