One of the surprise announcements from last week’s Nintendo Direct livestream was that DOOM would be coming to the Nintendo Switch. The first-person shooter’s publisher, Bethesda, confirmed that the game would be released this holiday season, but declined to provide more specifics.
As fans scratch their heads wondering exactly when the game will be out, it seems that the DOOM Nintendo Switch release date has now leaked. As it so happens, kuma.cz, a retailer in the Czech Republic, has listed the game’s release date as December 13, 2017. However, it should be noted that December 13 is a Wednesday. The retail versions of major games in the United States are typically released on a Friday, meaning that those in America may have to wait a couple of extra days to play it.
If that really is the release date, though, then it makes good business sense. The Skyrim release date for Nintendo Switch is around a month before the proposed launch of DOOM, providing a decent amount of room between the two Bethesda titles, ensuring that they won’t compete. Moreover, the release would be around two weeks after the release of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (December 1), meaning that DOOM won’t steal interest away from that major Switch game, either.
It also means that the gory shooter will be available just before Christmas. While DOOM will not be able to fully capitalize on the holiday sales rush, many people will still run out to buy the game to play on Christmas morning. Some may also pick up a copy as a stocking filler for new Nintendo Switch owners as well.
With around three months to go until that rumored release date, Bethesda and Nintendo have plenty of time to make the announcement official. And while that December date should be taken with a grain of salt for now, it’s positive news for Nintendo Switch owners.
That release date would mean that the Switch has a stellar line up of gaming releasing right up until the end of the year. From FIFA 18 at the end of this month to Super Mario Odyssey at the end of October, and from Skyrim to L.A Noire in November, Switch owners will have plenty of choices. Having such a great variety is vital for the Switch’s success, and this is a good sign of things to come.
