EA Promises ‘A Few Surprises’ for Gamescom 2017

Gamescom 2017 is already shaping up to be quite the event. Microsoft has announced its own Gamescom 2017 plans, including the Xbox One X, but it’s not the only big name company with big plans for the event.

Also in attendance will be Electronic Arts (EA). The video game publisher announced its Gamescom 2017 plans today, promising a live presentation on August 21 at 6:30 pm CET/9:30 am PDT. The presentation, which will be hosted on, will include “new gameplay, live matches, and a few surprises as well.” Between August 22-26, fans can also get some hands-on time with games like Star Wars Battlefront 2, Need for Speed Payback, FIFA 18 and the Battlefield 1 In the Name of the Tsar DLC.

Other than promising gameplay reveals and new trailers, the company doesn’t provide any real hints at which games will be featured at the showcase. However, fans have already begun to put together a wishlist. This list includes the likes of BioWare’s Anthem, which was revealed at E3 2017. Those looking forward to the connect sci-fi game have been steadily uncovering clues about the game, such as elemental combat and skills, but a new trailer would give them much more to chew on. The game won’t release until 2018, after all, and fans will need plenty to tide them over until the game releases.

Another game on the wishlist – which is a long-shot – is Skate 4. Fans were tremendously upset when Skate 4 wasn’t at E3 2017, as many had high hopes that EA would reveal a new game in the skateboarding series during the event. Although EA stated that the game wasn’t in development when it was asked earlier this year, many are still optimistic that the company is just waiting for the right time to reveal the game. Could Gamescom 2017 be the perfect place to lift the lid on the new series entry?

Given that it will be playable at Gamescom, new trailers for Star Wars Battlefront 2 also seem like a certainty. The game doesn’t release until November but fans have many questions about the game, including its story mode. It is set to address feedback by adding a single player campaign but uncertain fans will need a bit more convincing until they believe that the game is really going to do right by their concerns. Fingers crossed that Gamescom 2017 will offer something substantial on that front.

Gamescom 2017 takes place from August 22-26, 2017.
