Final Fantasy 15 PC Development – In addition to improved graphics, a new first-person mode, and support for up to 8K resolutions, it seems that the definitive version of Final Fantasy 15 is actually far easier to develop than its console counterpart. According to Hajime Tabata, Director of the upcoming game, creating a Final Fantasy experience on PC is “more than 100 times” easier than initial development was when the game had to be made from scratch.
Since the development team has access to the original game’s assets, it would seem obvious that making a port is easier than creating a full game, but Hajime Tabata’s team still has their work cut out for them with Final Fantasy 15. Not only will the title boast additional features over its console counterpart, it also needs to be ready to ship by early 2018, leaving the developers little time to complete their project.
Right now, Tabata estimates that the team’s attempt to add a first-person mode to Noctis and friends‘ adventure is only half-complete, although the Game Director believes that the feature will be worth the extra effort.
“We have only reached about 50 per cent [completion] on this mode, but we feel the gameplay has a certain freshness to it and it’s been well-received among those in the development team.”
Although graphically Final Fantasy 15‘s PC port will already outclass console versions of the game, Tabata explains that he is determined to see just how well the game can be made to run on lower spec machines. The Director claims that a global PC market requires titles to be able to run on a variety of levels and the development team wants to ensure that users have a chance to play the port they’ve worked so hard on.
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard of development being harder on console but this new definitive edition may be worth the extra effort, even if it wasn’t too difficult to create. Not only does it finally allow PC players to access the award-winning title, it also comes with all of the Final Fantasy 15 DLC included.
“Players will expect the game to have evolved because we are providing a higher quality depiction than the current consoles out there. If we are able to meet such demands, then it gives meaning to doing this in the first place.”
Hajime Tabata’s final statement on the game paints a picture of a development team who has a real passion behind their project and, judging by the reviews of the base title alone, the upgraded Final Fantasy 15 for PC is sure to be a big hit.
