It’s been awhile in the making, but 4K is becoming more popular. Sony and Microsoft have now updated their gaming consoles to take advantage of 4K resolution displays. Beyond this, content providers like Netflix, Sky and Amazon are all pushing ahead with 4K-enabled services.

Part of the reason for this “push” is that 4K TVs are becoming more common and the main reason behind this is because the price of a 4K TV has come down A LOT in the past 12 months.

When 4K TVs first landed they cost thousands of pounds — way too much for most people. But nowadays you can pick up a decent, large-screened 4K TV for around the same price as a decent 1080p setup, which means when you get a new TV it might as well be a 4K one.

Demand for 4K TVs is a growing trend as well. According to data from Strategy Analytics, 1/8 North American homes will have a 4K TV before the close of 2016 — that’s around 11 million homes. The report added that shipments of 4K TVs have increased some 70% in the past 12 months.

Strategy Analytics predicts that by 2020 all 40-inch and bigger TVs sold in North America will be Ultra HD. In addition to this, by 2020 almost 50% of of US home will have at least one 4K TV.

“2160p resolution has almost become a given in the large screen TV market,” says David Watkins, Director of Strategy Analytics’ Connected Home Devices service.”

He added: “Attention is now turning to other attributes that fall under the Ultra HD umbrella such as high dynamic range [explained here], wide color gamut and high frame rates. A high proportion of mid to high-end Ultra HD TVs sold this year will support HDR which in combination with higher resolution and enhanced color representation will deliver a significant step change improvement to the TV viewing experience beyond resolution alone.”

Below are some options to get you started. All cost less than £1000 and are available right now via Amazon. Some have had their prices slashed dramatically and others are just priced that way. Either way, getting on the 4K train has never cost so little.

Will 2016 be the year you switch to 4K? Take a look at the awesome options below and tell me you’re not tempted!
