Friday the 13th Rolls Back PC Patch After XP Issues Arise

Earlier today Friday the 13th developer Gun Media issues a new PC patch that was said to improve the game’s matchmaking and fix some of the more pressing issues. However, a new bug in said patch has forced the Gun to roll back the update for all players on PC.

While the Friday the 13th patch had yet to hit consoles, PC players noted a loss of XP, perks, and unlocks after downloading the update. Essentially, the game was not giving players credit for anything they did in the game, which should one of the major reasons people keep playing. As a result, Gun Media had to roll back to an earlier version of its asymmetric multiplayer game, so as to preserve players’ progress within the experience.

According to Gun Media, the loss of data is a byproduct of several things, but specifically a paring down of the info its servers collect. During the Friday the 13th beta, Gun was tracking a lot of different items, presumably to better understand what did and didn’t work in the Kickstarter-funded game.

However, once the game officially launched, all of those data collection items overloaded the Friday the 13th database, resulting in numerous errors across the board. Gun Media had been anticipating somewhere in the vicinity of 30,000 concurrent players when the game released, but instead close to 75,000 players showed up all at once.

With so much taxing on the servers and the database, some info was lost as a result. What most players noticed is that they weren’t earning XP, but apparently more data was not getting through to the Friday the 13th database as well.

The good news is that things have improved dramatically since Friday the 13th launched last Friday. The bad news is that there are still some players that are unable to log into the servers, and there are plenty of nagging issues that need to be resolved.

Then, presumably Gun Media can start focusing on other fixes for its game, including the Flaming Jason Skin DLC for PS4, improvements to gameplay and collision, and eventually the single player mode. For now, though, it’s best to keep an eye on the game’s Twitter and Facebook accounts to keep up to date on the latest news.

Friday the 13th The Game is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
