According to simultaneous corroborating reports from both Bloomberg and Macotakara – both reputable publications – Apple is preparing a handful of launches for March 27. Amongst them, Apple will be releasing a new colour option for the iPhone X, as well as a new sixth-gen iPad (the $329 model). Reportedly, both moves are a bid to “restore sales”, as iPad and tablet sales continue to decline, and iPhone X sales have dropped off since the new year began.
The specifics of what colour Apple is prepping aren’t clear at this point, although both red and a new variant of gold are rumoured. In our view the latter seems more likely.
It’s claimed Apple’s new iPad will include support for the Apple Pencil stylus and will be tailored towards education. Apple hopes it can compete with cheap Chromebooks which are currently dominant in that sector. However, while the new iPad may get an announcement imminently, it reportedly may not actually arrive until Q3 2018.
A mid-March launch would make a lot of sense considering Apple’s similar launch in 2017. As with last year’s March launch, it’s expected that it will be “silent”, which isn’t exactly literal; Apple will hold an event and issue press releases, just don’t expect the pomp of its major iPhone launches. Also expect it to quietly update its webstore.
