PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds Announces Expanded Partnership with Microsoft

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is a game that has taken the world of Battle Royale shooters by storm. Developed by Brendan Greene, the king of the industry and a talented game modder, Battlegrounds has sold more than 8 million copies on Steam and is soon to be published by Microsoft for the Xbox One.

Today, Greene’s company Bluehole, Inc announced that it will work with Microsoft to ensure quality is maintained as the console development of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds progresses at an accelerated pace. Vice President of Bluehole, Chang Han Kim claims that the partnership is in the best interest of gamers and developers alike:

“Our goal is to deliver the best Battle Royale experience to a global audience and our partnership with Microsoft will allow us to do just that. This partnership with Microsoft will accelerate the development and delivery of PUBG to console players around the world as we utilize their vast resources and impressive technical, sales and marketing expertise.”

Phil Spencer, Head of Xbox, claims to be a huge fan of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, which makes the platform a good fit for Greene’s game to flourish. Speaking about his company’s new partnership, Spencer replied that he “couldn’t be more excited” about the announcement.

A game with the highest peak player count on Steam, excluding Valve titles, PUBG is likely going to see a similar level of success when it launches on console for the first time. Ensuring that the title stays restricted to Microsoft’s platform outside of Steam is sure to be highly beneficial to Xbox, though Sony fans were certainly disappointed with the reveal when it was made at E3 2017.

Hopefully the addition of the Microsoft crew means that Bluehole, Inc will be able to fix the list of things that need fixing with PUBG, improving the general optimization of the game for all players. It’s likely that PC players will also see some benefits from this new partnership, as the developer receives some additional support.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is set to launch exclusively on Xbox One as part of the Xbox Game Preview program in late 2017, with a final version of the game launching in early 2018 across all Xbox One devices. It is currently available on PC.
