Samsung is currently testing Android 7.0 Nougat builds on its flagships Galaxy S7 series

It feels like everything is a bit doom and gloom for Samsung at the moment with the firm’s mass recall of the Galaxy Note 7 dominating tech headlines, however, there are other, more positive things afoot from the Korean phone maker. Evidence has now emerged that Samsung is already testing an Android 7.0 Nougat build aboard its Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 EDGE flagship handsets – y’know, the ones that don’t explode.

Listings have shown up in the Geekbench benchmarking database with both flagship Galaxy S7 models running new Android 7.0 software builds, importantly it’s not just one or two listings either, there’s quite a lot of them, heavily implying that Samsung is engaging in some intensive mass testing to really push the new update out in a timely fashion.

Samsung hasn’t provided any hints yet about its plans for Android 7.0 update schedules, but it’s not a huge leap to think that the current Galaxy S7 flagships will be in line first. We also think there’s probably a bit of a hurry going on due to the Galaxy Note 7 battery issues, and Sammy could likely do with a distraction and some positive PR spin! Either way, we’re fairly confident both Galaxy S7 variations will be receiving the update at the same time, and considering Samsung’s historic ability to churn out Android updates pretty quickly, we expect we won’t be waiting too long. Expect the Galaxy Note 7 to take a good deal longer though, between the exploding scandal and the fact that Samsung has said it thinks an extra two or three months will be needed just to merge Nougat with its custom UI and S-Pen features.
