The FIVE Best iPhone 7 Alternatives For Late-2016

Want a new phone but not keen on Apple’s iPhone 7? Check out these more-than-worthy alternatives…

For a lot of users, there is only one mobile phone worth owning: Apple’s iPhone. The reasons for this sentiment are myriad, but two of the most significant draws for Apple products is the company’s ecosystem and the handset’s ease of use and familiarity.

There are two types of Apple user out there, however; the first is the purist, the person that will only ever use Apple products and nothing else; the other is those that appreciate Apple’s way of doing things but aren’t averse to trying new things.

I fall into this latter category, as I have used multiple iPhones over the years, as well as plenty of Android phones. Basically, I go where the value is. Sometimes that’s with Apple, other times it is with Samsung, LG or Google.

This year has been a good year for Android phones. We’ve seen plenty of innovation, plenty of design and some exceptionally competitive handsets released. If you’re in the market for a non-iPhone device and you want the absolute best of the best, then you need to check out these five handsets, as they cannot be beaten with respect to price, design and performance.

OnePlus 3T

Out of all the phones on this list, the OnePlus 3T is perhaps the best of all. Not because of its specs or performance, though they are impressive, but because of how much it costs.

This handset offers up high-end specs at bargain basement prices. More or less on even-footing with Apple’s iPhone 7 and the Google Pixel phone, the OnePlus 3T retails for around 50% less than both handsets, making it one hell of a proposition for 2017/17.

No one else in the phone space is making phones this good and this cheap. If you’re after value for money, look no further – OnePlus is the king in this regard.

Samsung Galaxy S7 EDGE

Design. Specs. Performance. An excellent camera – the Galaxy Note 7 EDGE does it all. It is also perhaps the most well known and popular handset on this list. If you’re looking for a straight-up KILLER phone then the Galaxy S7 EDGE is where its at.

Arguably the best looking phone on this list, the Galaxy S7 EDGE performs like a true champion and has some of the best battery performance in the business. Samsung also has the best quality displays on offer inside its current flagship phones, so if that’s important to you then this is the phone for you.

Google Pixel / Google Pixel XL

Like Apple’s iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, Google’s new Pixel phones are VERY expensive. But, like Apple’s iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus they offer some of the best software and performance in this space.

The design of them is rather pedestrian, but the overall performance of these handsets – notably imaging and battery – more than make up for their rather conservative exteriors.

These Android phones, like Google’s Nexus phones before them, will always get Android updates first, benefit from exclusive Google software features like Assistant and the Pixel camera, and feature almost no bloatware whatsoever.

If you’re looking for the purest Android experience going, Google’s Pixel phones are the one for you. Speaking personally, I would almost certainly go for the Pixel XL, as it has truly exceptional battery performance and a gorgeous QHD panel.

Huawei Mate 9

You might not of heard of Huawei, but this will almost certainly change in the coming months and years, as the Chinese technology giant increases its presence in the mobile space with solid release after solid release.

The Huawei P9 was a great handset, but the newly launched Huawei Mate 9 is the one you want to be looking at in late-2016. This handset looks and feels stunning – its made entirely out of metal – and it features a truly ENORMOUS battery (4000mAh), which translates into truly jaw-dropping battery performance.

Beyond this the handset features all the latest specs and hardware, making for a truly compelling package for those that want something a little different to Samsung and Google. Standout features for this handset are its design, its camera and its battery performance.

Moto Z Force

Motorola is now owned by Lenovo, but that does not mean all the good work Google did for the brand has been lost. Quite the contrary, in fact: Lenovo has followed a similar approach with its management of Motorola, keeping every as is and focusing purely on design, usability, timely software updates and value for money.

The Moto Z Force is at the sharp-end of this sentiment; it looks brilliant, performs brilliantly and was one of the first non-Google handsets to get updated to Android 7 Nougat. Motorola has really come into its own in recent history, the company has an excellent command of Android itself, as well as imaging and battery management, and the resulting effect with the Moto Z Force is one of the most solid, reliable Android phones on the planet.

I love testing Moto handsets; they’re always a massive pleasure to spend a few weeks with… and the Moto Z Force is now exception. If you’re after solid, well-built handsets that are ultra reliable and packed with tons of useful feature be sure to check this handset out.
