Developer CD Projekt Red officially announces the release date for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt‘s forthcoming Game of the Year Edition with a brand new trailer.
About a month ago, while The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt‘s game director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz was thanking fans for their support of CD Projekt Red’s wildly successful action-RPG title starring Geralt of Rivia, he mentioned the fact that the developer was working on creating a Game of the Year Edition, but didn’t have an official release date for it at the time. Now, however, the studio has put together a brand new trailer for its forthcoming release, confirming that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt‘s Game of the Year Edition is set to launch on August 30, 2016.
As seen in The Witcher 3‘s brief clip below, fans who decide to purchase the Game of the Year Edition will be privy to practically every bit of content CD Projekt Red has put out for the title thus far, which adds up to over 150 hours of adventure and gameplay in the action-RPG’s open world. This means that not only will players receive the base game, which is sizeable on its own, but also they will get the rather meaty add-ons of Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, the game’s last expansion.
While the news of Witcher 3‘s Game of the Year Edition is indeed exciting for those fans who have been waiting to get the title until all of its assets were bound together in one version, it still remains to be seen exactly how much CD Projekt Red will charge for such a sumptuous offering. Of course, considering the studio’s past generosity — the developer released 16 free DLC packs soon after the game’s launch, for instance — it would be surprising if the GOTY Edition’s price point exceeds that of the title’s original cost of $60.
Furthermore, according to a financial report from CD Projekt Red several months ago, The Witcher 3 has already generated the company a lot of revenue. Bearing this in mind, it’s difficult to imagine that the Poland-based studio would gouge its fan base by making the action-RPG’s Game of the Year Edition overly expensive. Nevertheless, with the developer describing its latest project Cyberpunk 2077 as “more ambitious” than The Witcher 3, it’s possible that CD Projekt Red could do with some extra scratch to help beef up the production value of the next game, so really, it’s anyone’s guess as to what the price of the GOTY Edition will be.
At any rate, gamers who have yet to play The Witcher 3 and plan on doing so with the Game of the Year Edition should prepare themselves for a major treat. After all, the third installment in CD Projekt Red’s fantastical trilogy has been adored by fans and critics alike, as the title has received numerous Game of the Year awards. With this being the case, players looking to purchase the GOTY Edition ought to block off a seriously large amount of time for gameplay, since The Witcher 3 in its entirety is definitely a massive experience.
