Red Dead Redemption 2 may have been delayed to 2018, but will Rockstar Games bring its upcoming cowboy adventure to E3 2017? The game would undoubtedly be one of the stars of the show, but the company has remained quiet on whether it has plans for the annual gaming event.
When Red Dead Redemption 2 was delayed, fans were heartbroken. Memes about Rockstar’s infamous habit of delaying games were mixed with disappointment from many, and sadness from a few who could not be consoled by the fresh screenshots that the company released as a sort of apology gift. An appearance at E3 would be incredibly rare for the company, as it does not host an annual presentation (although parent company Take-Two regularly shows up), but it would go a long way towards making it up to those upset fans.
It would also appease everyone who is still digging for details on what the game is about. The Red Dead Redemption 2 announcement trailer hinted at row boats and a new rootin’ tootin’ gang of cowboys, but it didn’t confirm whether the game was a prequel or sequel to the events of the first game or its exact setting.
For comparison, the announcement trailer of the first Red Dead Redemption came with plenty of up close shots of John Marston, inside a train, walking on top of a train, on horseback, wielding guns, blowing things to smithereens and generally causing chaos. That trailer didn’t spell out the game’s story exactly, but at least fans knew who they’d be playing as. Recent leaks suggest that the sequel will feature Jack Marston as its protagonist, but that’s up in the air as Rockstar is tight-lipped.
Admittedly, the chances of the game making an appearance look slim based on recent comments from Take-Two. In a recent interview with MCV, the company’s CEO Strauss Zelnick said that Take-Two is “not really showing products” and will have a “corporate presence” instead. Though, the company will be meeting with retail partners, investors, and press, so it’s no doubt that there will be plenty of questions about the game, its delay, and Take-Two’s plans and predictions for its release.
Should Red Dead Redemption 2 defy all odds, then it will do so during the Sony E3 2017 press conference, if anywhere. This is where the current-generation console version of Grand Theft Auto 5 was announced all the way back in 2014 and since Red Dead Redemption 2 will bring some content to PS4 before it comes to Xbox One, it’s the only logical option. Fans will want to cross their fingers, kiss their lucky horseshoes, and find themselves a rabbit foot ahead of E3 2017, which kicks off tomorrow.
Red Dead Redemption 2 will be released in 2018 for PS4 and Xbox One.
