After fans were sent into a speculative frenzy a few days ago when the Target website featured a mysterious listing for a brand new Bethesda developed Game of Thrones game, Target has come out and denied all rumors that the Fallout and Elder Scrolls developer will be making its way to Westeros.
Following a series of rumors, Target reached out to ComicBook.com and confirmed that the alleged Bethesda developed Game of Thrones title is not real. The retailer then apologized to fans about the erroneous listing on the company’s website, saying that the game “is not a real product.”
This will undoubtedly be disappointing to fans given Bethesda’s reputation for making some of the most critically-acclaimed adventure games ever, not to mention a previously missed opportunity back in 2011 when the studio was offered to make a Westeros-based game but turned it town in favor of focusing on Skyrim.
While a Bethesda developed Game of Thrones game may not be in the cards, there is still much to look forward to from the studio in the next few months. The remainder of 2017 will see the release of Fallout 4 VR, DOOM VR, and Skyrim VR, not to mention the upcoming launches of The Evil Within 2, Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus, and Quake Champions, so gamers won’t be short of games from Bethesda any time soon.
For those wanting a new Game of Thrones game, fans can look forward to the upcoming second season of Telltale Games’ Game of Thrones series. Though it is not yet known when the next slate of episodes will be released, especially with the developer currently busy working on various other projects such as The Walking Dead, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Batman: The Enemy Within.

Given how the latest season of Game of Thrones has permeated through pop-culture and entertainment in the last few months, not to mention the amount of frenzy generated by Target’s erroneous listing, it certainly appears that the demand for new Game of Thrones content is at a high right now. Taking into this account, perhaps a new game set in Westeros could indeed happen at some point in the future to coincide with the conclusion of the massively-popular TV series in 2018/2019, Bethesda-developed or otherwise.
