There are a number of reasons why you might need to clear your Xbox One’s cache from time to time.
What’s the Xbox One’s cache? You may ask. Essentially it’s a block of storage on the console where it stores temporary data and files to improve game-play and keep things running smoothly. However, over time it can have the opposite effect and get clogged up with tons of excess clutter; this can cause crashing, freezing, slow game loads, connectivity problems and general lag issues.
That means that from time to time, or if you are experiencing one of the above problems, it’s a good idea to try clearing the cache first and see if that fixes things and boosts performance, or stops crashes from occurring.
If it doesn’t resolve your problems, it might be worth performing a hard reset, you can find out how to perform a hard reset on your Xbox One console here.
How To Clear The Cache On Your Xbox One Console
Turn off your Xbox One console, then unplug the power cable from the back of the device.
Wait for about two minutes.
Then plug the power cable back in.
Look at the power brick and wait for the indicator light to change from white to orange. When this happens, power the console on.
A quicker and easier method is to simply hold press on the Xbox One console’s Xbox button for 10 seconds. It will make a distinctive noise that is different from the usual power off noise. When it has completely turned off wait a moment and then power it back on again.
In some cases it’s potentially worth trying both methods if the problem is persisting.
Note that if the cache clear was successful, when you load a game the console will display that it is “Syncing”, which means it is synchronising with your saved data from the on-board storage.
