Kingdom Come Deliverance Day One Patch is Larger Than Some Games

Deep Silver and Warhorse Studios’ upcoming action role-playing game, Kingdom Come: Deliverance, is a historically accurate and realistic rendition of the medieval kingdom of Bohemia, an Imperial State of the Holy Roman Empire. But it seems Kingdom Come: Deliverance, like war torn Bohemia, has under gone some massive changes itself due to the fact that the game has a 23GB day one patch.

This day one patch is, in fact, larger than some games. Capcom’s recent Monster Hunter World, for example, launched with a total file size of 16GB on the PlayStation 4. The patch does balance features, but it also adds a few new ones. Here is the general list of improvements for Kingdom Come: Deliverance patch 1.01:

  • Addition of multiple new events to the open world
  • Massive improvement in dialogue animations
  • Gaining money and experience is rebalanced
  • Weapon and armor stats are rebalanced
  • General combat improvements
  • Improved NPC reaction time
  • Sound propagation adjusted
  • Archery is now possible in stealth mode
  • Improved Persuasion UI
  • Plus numerous other bug fixes and improvements

According to Will Powers, senior marketing and PR manager for Deep Silver, the patch is the result of “at least” six weeks of work. The patch size seemingly supports this statement. Still, it appears the game may be smaller than larger titles such as Call of Duty: WW2Even then, however, it is an interesting point of comparison for vastly different titles.

Powers also revealed that, due to the way the engine works, gamers “are having to redownload the game to replace the existing files. It shouldn’t stack them and inflate on your hard drive, but rather replace the previously downloaded build files.”Because of the engine, the entire game is broken into 2GB archives, and the smallest change means that the entire potion has to be reuploaded.

While it sounds complex, the patch essentially means a smoother, better game for those picking up the title. Considering it was nominated for best RPG at the E3 2017 Game Critics Awards, it may have been on many gamer’s radar for 2018, even with the recent news of the massive day one patch.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance releases February 13, 2018 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
