Nvidia has been poking around with streaming games for a while now and with sufficient groundwork laid out is now bringing these services to a platform notoriously lacking on the gaming front; Apple’s Mac computers.
This isn’t a full-blown release though, not just yet. Nvidia first gave us a glimpse of its GeForce Now streaming for Mac back at CES 2017 at the beginning of the year, but is now going live with the Nvidia GeForce Now for Mac beta program.
Nvidia’s GeForce Now games streaming service first appeared via the Nvidia Shield portable and Shield tablet devices, and then for the firm’s Nvidia Shield TV set-top box; the company has a boat-load of back-end infrastructure in place by this point, and for people with the above devices prepared to pay an $8 per month subscription fee, endless games streaming is on tap already.
Now that’s coming to Mac comptuers for the beta program, as Nvidia itself outlined on its website.
“Bring your favorite PC games to life at max settings, with smooth framerates—all powered by GeForce GTX GPUs in the cloud. All you need is a good Internet connection, and to be located in North America. Currently, the free beta is only available for Mac users. Join our waitlist to be notified when GeForce NOW for Mac becomes available in new regions, and when the PC version is released.”
Because of its pedigree in gaming circles, Nvidia has managed to get a tasty looking catalogue of games on GeForce Now, including Rise of the Tomb Raide, Elder Scrolls: Skyrim, Call of Duty, Diablo III, Destiny 2, League of Legends, Rocket League, Fallout 4, Dark Souls 3, and Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds, amongst many, many others. And if you’re a Mac owner and want to get in on the beta, you can check out Nvidia’ dedicated page to sign up and download the client.
