The Nintendo Switch is the fastest selling games console of ALL TIME in the US

It’s official: Nintendo is BACK. The company’s latest console, the Switch, is now the fastest selling games console in US history, cementing the company’s comeback and putting to bed any fears that the once-great games company had lost its touch.

Released on March 3, the Switch has now sold in excess of 4.8 million units in the USA. This is more than the Xbox. More than the PS4. And, importantly, more than the Wii, which should a very impressive 4 million units in 10 months.

“Fans across the country have experienced the joy of playing their favourite games at home or on the go,” said Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America’s President and COO. “Now that many more people have received Nintendo Switch systems for the holidays, we look forward to bringing them fun new surprises in 2018 and beyond.”

The pitch, design, and positioning of the Nintendo Switch was always going to be risky. Nintendo effectively bet the house on the system succeeding and, given the strength of Xbox and PS4 these days, pulling it off was always going to be an uphill struggle.

But thanks to MASSIVE new titles like Zelda: Breath of Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, Splatoon 2, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Nintendo has SMASHED its targets and is now pressing on for 10 million units sold before the close of 2019.

Over 300 games from third-party developers also launched during 2017 as well, giving users of the console plenty of choice when it comes to gaming experiences. EA, Ubisoft, Rockstar, Bethesda – they’re all there, making content for the Switch. And this is great news for consumers and even better news for the future of the Switch platform.

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, Mega Man 11, Dragon Quest Builders and Super Meat Boy are all scheduled for release inside 2018. And it is titles like these, combined with more classic in-house franchises like Kirby Star Allies, Bayonetta, Bayonetta 2 and Yoshi that will power Switch sales as we move through 2018.

I played on my bro’s Nintendo Switch all Xmas and had an absolute blast. The console is fun, intuitive, and great for multiplayer sessions. It reminded me of my teenage years where my friends and I would spend hours playing Goldeneye on the N64.

Needless to say, after this, I opted to order one for myself. There are tons of great deals around for the console right now, as you can see below.
