Wildlands Shows Off Predator Challenge Combat, Rewards

Just yesterday, Ubisoft hinted at a Predator crossover event coming to the tactical team-based shooter Ghost Recon: Wildlands called “The Hunt” with the release of a brief teaser clip featuring the titular extraterrestrial warrior making short work of several hapless soldiers lost in the jungle. Now, the publisher and developer has decided to give fans a better idea at the type of combat and rewards they should expect to encounter when they take on the Predator.

As seen below in the special event trailer for Ghost Recon: WildlandsPredator challenge, it looks as if fans will be placed in teams of four in a PvE situation to face the Yautja hunter, and the creature seems to have retained most of its weaponry and abilities from the film franchise. For instance, not only is the Predator shown using its thermal tracking technology and cloaking device to creep up on the unsuspecting Ghosts with its lethal wrist blades, but also it sends them running with an explosive round from its shoulder-mounted plasma cannon. Really, the only thing missing is the monster’s razor-sharp Shurikens and Smart Discs.

Interestingly enough, Ubisoft’s trailer for the Predator event leaves the door open for the possible inclusion of a PvP feature of 4v1, too, with four players joining forces as Ghosts to take on another fan assuming the role of the Yautja warrior. After all, there’s one moment in the footage that shows the camera resting behind the Predator for just a quick moment while its prey runs around the jungle spraying bullets indiscriminately, intimating the feature’s availability. Should a 4v1 mode be a part of the event, then Ubisoft might be taking a gameplay page out of the books of popular multiplayer horror titles like Dead by Daylight and Friday the 13th: The Game.

Of course, while battling the Predator in Ghost Recon: Wildlands will likely be a reward in and of itself, Ubisoft also has plans to use the challenge as a means to introduce new items and to let fans earn unique rewards related to the sci-fi/horror franchise. It’s unclear at this point, though, whether or not all of the objects shown in the trailer will be prized to those who complete certain aspects of the event, or if they’re simply able to be purchased in-game. At any rate, Ubisoft will be adding items under the banner of “Predator Packs,” with one including new gear and weapons, another having the creature’s wristblades, one more featuring the monster’s helmet, and the last being a Predator class for Ghost War PvP.

Those looking forward to taking part in Ghost Recon: WildlandsPredator challenge won’t have to wait much longer, as it begins tomorrow, December 14, and it is completely free for players to experience. There’s no telling how long the special event will last, so Ghosts will need to start the hunt as soon as it goes live if they want a chance at eliminating one of the universe’s most deadly combatants.

Ghost Recon: Wildlands is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
